Bösl Medizintechnik sets up ergonomic assembly workstations
How a medical technology manufacturer standardised assembly with 17 ergonomic OTTOKIND workstations, creating a safer, more consistent production environment for sensitive components.
The Challenge
When you manufacture products with sensitive components, your workstations become part of the process. If benches are inconsistent, the wrong height, or set up with improvised power and storage, operators end up adapting their bodies and their workflow to whatever space is available. Over time, that affects comfort, consistency and productivity.
Bösl Medizintechnik, a manufacturer of intermittent pneumatic compression systems, faced this exact challenge. Over the years, assembly had grown around a mix of tables and office desks. None of the existing benches were height adjustable or designed for assembly work. Ergonomics depended on which station was free, rather than a standard that everyone could rely on.
A move into a new facility created the chance to reset the approach and build a more professional, repeatable working environment.
What Bösl Medizintechnik Needed
Bösl Medizintechnik wanted to standardise assembly with ergonomic, ESD protected workstations suitable for very sensitive components.
Project Requirements
-
17 standardised ergonomic assembly workstations with ESD protection Height-adjustable benches designed specifically for assembly work with sensitive electronic components
-
2 additional workstations in a special width to suit specific tasks Custom-configured benches for processes requiring non-standard workspace dimensions
-
1 table to support administration work Dedicated workspace for documentation and quality control processes
-
Practical additions for day-to-day flow Tidy power distribution and accessible storage for small parts to reduce clutter and improve efficiency
The Solution
Bösl Medizintechnik selected the OTTOKIND multi4motion workstation system because it could be configured to suit the work, while keeping the overall set up consistent across the assembly area.
Workstation Configuration
Each table was configured with:
- Energy bar fed in via distributor Integrated power distribution system providing clean, accessible electrical supply at each workstation
- Swivel arm with three rails for storage boxes Adjustable storage solution keeping small parts and components within easy reach without cluttering the work surface
- Bottle holder at every station Standard amenity ensuring operators can stay hydrated without compromising workspace organization
Because a socket cube was suspended from the ceiling in the new facility, each workstation only required a single plug for power and earthing. That kept cabling simple and reduced clutter around the benches.
Planning Support
To support planning, OTTOKIND produced visualisations of the workstation configurations so the final layouts could be agreed before production.
Delivery and Installation
The tables were delivered pre-assembled. Accessories and superstructure parts were then fitted on site so each workstation could be finalised in position, ready for assembly teams to start work quickly.
- Pre-assembled benches delivered ready for placement
- On-site accessory installation for precise positioning
- Minimal disruption to facility setup schedule
- Immediate operational readiness
The Result
Bösl Medizintechnik's feedback was clear. The workstations were described as well used, stable, functional, and a good fit for the application.
Ergonomic & Safe
Modern assembly environment designed specifically for medical technology production with consistent ESD protection
Standardised Setup
Consistent workstations across the assembly area eliminate variability and support repeatable processes
Future Ready
Modular platform enabled expansion with 5 additional accessory trolleys post-installation
Most importantly, the project delivered an ergonomic, safe, modern assembly environment designed for medical technology production, with consistent workstations and ESD protection for sensitive components.
Because the system is modular and the accessories integrate cleanly, Bösl Medizintechnik has since expanded the setup further by ordering five additional accessory trolleys.
